The Packer Types
The packer types are different as per different standard.This article will introduce it as per its different standard.It will help you choose the best oil and gas packers.
1. According to the use of the packer
- 1) Oil well packer
Such packers can be subdivided into stratified oil-removing packers (such as stratified water shut-off, shovel, inspection, oil-test packers), packers for acid fracturing, and thermal recovery for heavy oil wells. Layer packer, thermal cycle packer for high-condensation oil wells, etc.
- 2) Packing device for water injection wells
Such packers can be subdivided into layered water-filled packers, layered gas drives (including steam drive) packers, polymer flood packers, and the like.
2. According to the installation method
- (1) Single slip packer: A slip packer that only withstands the pressure difference in one direction.
- (2) Double slip packer: set to withstand the upper and lower bidirectional pressure difference.
- (3) The overall slip packer: can withstand the pressure difference between the top and bottom.
3. By size
The maximum outer diameter of the steel body is related to the inner diameter of the casing.Such as:
- 5in well packer: the maximum outer diameter of the steel body is 99-102mm;
- 5 1/2in well packer: the maximum outer diameter of the steel body is 113-116mm;
- 6 5/8in well packer: the maximum outer diameter of the steel body is 136-140mm;
- 7 in well packer: the maximum outer diameter of the steel body is 148-152mm;
- 9 5/8 in well packer: the maximum outer diameter of the steel body is 190-208mm;
- Open hole packer: The maximum outer diameter of the steel body is 140mm.
4. According to working temperature
- (1) Conventional packer: operating temperature 120 °C.
- (2) Thermal packing packer: working temperature is 350 °C.
5. According to the working principle of the seal
This classification is categorized in such a way that the packer seals are sealed.
- (1) Self-sealing type: a packer that achieves sealing by the outer diameter of the sealed packing member (such as rubber rubber cylinder) (outer diameter of the cup) and the interference between the inner diameter of the casing and the working pressure difference.
- (2) Compression type: A packer that achieves sealing by the axial force compressing the outer diameter of the seal packing member (such as the rubber cylinder) to become larger (fitting the inner wall of the sleeve).
- (3) Expanding type: A packer that acts on the inner cavity of the packing member by a radial force to expand the outer diameter of the sealing packer to achieve sealing, and is also called a differential pressure packer on weekdays.
- (4) Combination type: a packer that is sealed by any combination of self-sealing, compression, and expansion.
